APPLICATION FOR BOARD MEMBERSHIP

At Lennox & Addington Interval House (LAIH), we firmly believe that a Board comprised of diverse voices and experiences fosters strong collaboration and better equips us to meet the unique needs of the women and children of our community.

LAIH’s vision is a world where all women and children live in homes free of violence and fear.

Our organization’s mission is to support women and children at every stage of their journey.  Whether through the provision of safe housing, a range of confidential, non-judgmental, flexible, community-based support services, the programs and services are focused on each woman’s distinct experiences.

LAIH views the world through an anti-oppressive and equity lens and if you do too, and you’re ready to commit to making our world, and our community, a better place, ask yourself these questions:

·      Do you believe that a committed group of people working together can create meaningful change in the lives of women and children affected by violence?

·      Do you feel that mentorship programs can empower women who have experienced violence to thrive and gain independence?

·      Do you feel that you know and care about opportunities for impactful change but you’re not sure how to get involved?

·      Do you have a unique perspective or voice to bring to the table?

Consider joining the passionate, welcoming and forward-thinking Board of Directors at LAIH.

LAIH is looking to grow its board membership. We are currently seeking individuals with expertise in the following areas:  legal, financial, fundraising, program development and communications. Previous board experience while an asset, is not necessary. A diverse and inclusive Board helps us adopt new and innovative ideas and approaches.

LAIH is working towards reaching out to people who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour), 2SLGBTQ+ and all marginalized identities, to incorporate voices, lived experience, knowledge and expertise of individuals who have previously not had a place at the table.

Please email us at inquirylaih@kingston.net for inquiries or to request an Application for Board membership. We’d love to hear from you!

Lennox and Addington Interval House provides update on investigation into financial matters during tenure of former Executive Director

An Initial Progress Letter has been received by Lennox and Addington Interval House (LAIH) from third-party auditors MNP investigating financial matters during the tenure of its former Executive Director (Chief Executive Officer), Sue Weir.

The investigation has initially determined:

· Between 2016 and 2023, the former Executive Director presented financial statements that were purportedly audited by a third-party accounting firm. However, the professional accountant whose signature appears on these statements has confirmed that neither he nor his firm were ever retained by or conducted any work for LAIH.

· A preliminary review of these purported audited financial statements has revealed irregularities, including financial statements that do not balance and notes to the financial statements that appear irregular.

· A sole proprietorship owned by the former Executive Director issued invoices to LAIH for services over many years that appear to have been:

o not performed, or

o for duties that Sue Weir was already being paid for as they fell within her salaried responsibilities as Executive Director.

· The former Executive Director processed and paid these invoices from LAIH to her sole proprietorship between May 2019 and March 2023.

MNP’s review of LAIH’s financial records continues. This Initial Progress Letter does not represent a complete accounting of the charitable property of LAIH or the period of time under review.

LAIH will share additional updates about the investigation as more information becomes available.

Lennox and Addington Interval House retains third-party auditor to aid in protection of charitable property

Lennox and Addington Interval House (LAIH) has retained third-party auditors MNP to undertake an independent investigation of financial matters during the tenure of its former Executive Director.

The investigation was begun after evidence was found that LAIH’s financial records may be incorrect, and its charitable property not appropriately accounted for over a period of several years.

LAIH’s Board and leadership team are committed to determining the facts and taking all appropriate steps to account for all its property.

No information suggests that any current or former Board member or other volunteer, or any current employee of LAIH is involved in this matter.

It is expected that the independent investigation will take some time.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, we are limited in the information that can be shared at this time. Once this investigation is complete, LAIH is committed to sharing the findings and any actions that may result.

Lennox and Addington Interval House’s mission to provide a place of safety for women and children to live free of violence is not affected in any way. All LAIH programs and services are running normally and will continue to do so.
